The Ceiling Fan Lie That Cost Me a Summer

I used to leave my ceiling fans running all day, even when I wasn’t home. I thought they were cooling the room. They’re not. Fans cool people, not spaces. The motor generates heat, so running a fan in an empty room actually makes the room slightly warmer. I learned this after a particularly hot July when my electric bill hit $210. If you have multiple fans in one room, you don’t need to run them all. One fan is enough. The breeze circulates. Running two fans in the same room just wastes electricity.
